Coop was recently selected for a year-long artist in residency at Walker Art Center, so its only right that we are syncing up the vibes there with our next stop on the “AT LEAST KNOW UR HOOD!” WORLD TOURRR!!
This FRIDAY NOVEMBER 21ST we’re hosting a new edition of our PUBLIC CLASS in Minn— talking bout all things infrastructure, black modernism and what we call… “us and the city”!!
Due to popular demand, we moving Public Class to this FRIDAY to get us a bigger space!! 6-8pm class, kickback til 9ish. You can grab free tickets here. (Spaces are limited… sign up to the waitlist to be notified when tickets more come up!!)
WHAT IS A HOOD CENTURY PUBLIC CLASS?
A 101 style class born from our our 1st college course, “Discovering Black Modernism: In Architecture, Design and Popular Culture” (a 1st of its kind to exist in the world!!)
We take it on the road and localize it to yall hoods.
Beyond “modernism”, we look at our lived experience w the city as a whole. The air, our parks, how we rep out neighborhoods, our music, language…
Its montessori-inspired, intergenerational type shit. Bring yo kids, yo cousins, grandparents and OGs.
This a call-and-response class. If u comin u gotta engage. Ask questions and vibe.
It’s really a performance. Expect classic Hood Century research and case studies —but w trivia, prize giveaways, archives on view, commemorative merch, music and special guests!!
In every class we get into city surveying, w a practice we call “deep listening”. An open conversation w yall on yall nostlagia, needs and desires for the city.
When we get back on here next we gonna share with yall what we researched and what new shit we learnt out there w yall. (Peep this D.C Public Class recap for a lil idea of how that look.)
